After having been a sailor and then a theater designer, Clarkson Frederick Stanfield exhibited his first paintings at the Royal Academy in 1820. He was elected an Academician there in 1835. Between 1823 and 1836 he traveled through Europe regularly. he is in Venice in 1830 or on the banks of the Meuse, the Rhine and the Moselle in 1836 where he draws the small views which are gathered here on the same montage.
Condition report – Stuck on the mount by the edges of the sheets outside the drawing. Good condition. A few small stains. Slightly insolated.
