This beautiful horizontal oil on paper was painted directly from nature by Léopold Leprince in the Sarthe (Pays de la Loire, France) according to his handwritten inscription on the verso. Born to family of landscape painters, Léopold Leprince made his apprenticeship with his father and his brother Xavier. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1822 to 1844, and in Douai, Valenciennes, Lille and Bordeaux. He is sometimes confused with his brothers Xavier and Gustave, the three of them having specialized in landscape and worked together.
