A soldier wearing the dragoons’ uniform

Oil on paper, laid down on another paper stuck on a piece of cardboard dating to 1931 and bearing customers lists.

395 x 314 mm – 15 9/16 x 12 3/8 in.

The royal ordonnance of 21 December 1762 renewed the dragoon’s uniform: a green jacket instead of a red one and a roman-style helmet. The color of the jacket lining and lapels depends on the dragoon’s regiment. Here, the red lining would indicate that the soldier belongs to regiments 1 to 6, accroding to another ordonnance dating to 1786.
