A Man wearing a Fur Hat

Black chalk and white gouache heightening on grey prepared paper.

229 x 200 mm – 9 1/64 x 7 7/8 in.

This lovely study on prepared paper is still waiting to be attributed. The motif evocates the subject of caravans, often treated by Genoese painters and revived by 18th-century French artists. This interest for Genoese subjects and the white heightenings on prepared paper  remind of some drawings by Jean Jacques Lagrenée.

Condition report – A few workshop stains on the verso, one of them which was probably showing through was cleaned on the verso.
