French draughtsman and decorator, active in Paris in the years 1780-1790, Richard de La Londe made many drawings of furniture and works of art which were widely distributed by engraving, notably in Œuvres diverses de Lalonde décorateur et dessinateur contenant un grand nombre de dessins pour la décoration intérieure des Appartements à l’image de la Peinture et de la Sculpture en ornemens. Des Meubles du plus nouveau goût. Des Pièces d’Orfèvrerie et de Serrurerie etc. (Paris, at Chéreau, 1780).
This drawing represents a study of an antique armchair and bed. In the Xe Cahier de Meubles Dessinés par La Londe. Lits Antiques, we find examples of antique beds engraved by Jean-Baptiste Fay from drawings by Richard de La Londe such as the engraving kept at the Victoria & Albert Museum in London (inv. E.630-1991).
