Study of a Young Man
Pencil and white chalk on grey paper.
260 x 293 mm – 10 1/4 x 11 9/16 in.
A beautiful and sensual study of a young man which reminds Paul Baudry’s preparatory works for his decoration paintings in the Grand Foyer of the Opera Garnier. This kind of figures, with ambiguous genre and undefined functions – profane allegories combining sensuality and spirituality – are common in Paul Baudry’s decorative painting and more generally in the second half of the 19thcentury.
Condition report -Very good condition, the left -hand side and right upper corner redone.
