Student of D.-A. Bisschop in Rotterdam, he painted military scenes and battles in which very remarkable qualities of style and execution are asserted. No less interesting are his drawings on the same subjects. His works are quite rare, twenty-one have been cataloged. He was often helped in his etchings by Hendrik Kobell the younger.
