Although there were many artists called Hubert in the 18th century, the author of this nice battle scene cannot be identified with certainty. Nothing allows to attribute it to the sculptor Laurent Hubert, the engraver François Hubert or to the miniaturist Jean Paul Hubert but they cannot be definitively dismissed.
Other minor artists, such as Hyacinthe Hubert, for instance are documented through historical mentions or reappearing signed works, but there aren’t enough elements to attribute this work to one of them.
