From 1831 onwards, he exhibited at the Salon views of towns and monuments, animated with historical or anecdotical scenes.<\/p>\n<p>This watercolor represents the church Saint-M\u00e9n\u00e9l\u00e9e in Menat, a small village in the Puy de D\u00f4me in Auvergne. Formerly the church of an abbey attached to Cluny, Saint M\u00e9n\u00e9l\u00e9e was one of the main centers of the Monastic Reform movement in Auvergne. During the French Revolution, the church was sold and deconsecrated but it was re-sacralized in 1802 and it became the parish church of Menat.<\/p>\n<p>Justin Ouvri\u00e9 discovered Auvergne in 1835 and visited numerous villages such as Menat where he executed this view of the chevet of the church bathed in sunlight. The same year, he presented a <em>View of the Mont d\u2019or<\/em>, also executed while he was in Auvergne. A watercolor representing a view of the church taken from the same point of view by an anonymous artist is in the Biblioth\u00e8que nationale de France<a href=\"#_ftn1\" name=\"_ftnref1\">[1]<\/a> \u00a0(Fig. 1)<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"#_ftnref1\" name=\"_ftn1\">[1]<\/a> D\u00e9partement Estampes et Photographie, <a href=\"https:\/\/gallica.bnf.fr\/ark:\/12148\/btv1b7742776v.item\">EXT RESERVE VE-26 (Q)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Perfect condition.
