An illustrator in Le Journal des dames et des modes and later in L’Artiste and L’Illustration, Gavarni became, just as Honoré Daumier, a regular contributor to the famous satirical daily newspaper Le Charivari around 1835. From 1840 onwards, he took part in book illustration projects.
